Following up on The Ladybug Transistor post was easy. Frequent Gary Olson collaborator, Phil Sutton, is releasing "another "Blue" by Love, Burns (Queens, New York). This band sound remarkably like Pale Lights, but the lineup is sort of an all-star one: Kyle Forrester (Crystal Stilts), Hampus Öhman-Frölund (drummed with many including Jens Lekman) and the aforementioned Gary Olson.

There have been many Love, Burns/Pale Lights posts over the years but I will repeat my RIYL: Felt, Lloyd Cole, Edwyn Collins, and many many more.

This is being co-released by Kleine Untergrund Schallplatte (KUS) and Jigsaw Records.

It had been a mistake getting involved with the musician, but Forrest had to admit that it was thrilling and, well, there was something just a little irresistible about Kyle. Still, standing in the beautiful penthouse suite of the ridiculously expensive hotel in New York City, Forrest regards the city bustling to life below as he takes a sip of his coffee. Kyle is rustling behind him, instead of turning to face him, though, the older man simply speaks to the glass. "I think we have to end this."

A Fresh New Look

With both Rayne and Sheree moved out, it’s Marsha who inherited the house! Billy moved in before my hiatus and the two are engaged so we get to actually play through another wedding! 

I wasted no time completing the round two makeovers and I think they turned out so cute! A little more grown up, but I kept their style sense in mind.

Marsha immediately hopped on the internet and Billy?  He’s a childish Sim so he spent the wee hours of the morning playing with a toy rocket, LOL!

With my extended life spans I tuned maternity leave to last most of the first year after birth (wouldn’t that be nice in real life...) Anyway, Billy was off to work as a police officer and Marsah made breakfast.

Oh no! Shayne and Cristina have been friends since the very beginning of the play through!

Baby Forrest is sleeping. Time for some kitty cuddling and a well deserved nap!

And a nicer bed so these two can recoup more easily! I’ve decided to minimally make over homes this round, like cribs for infants and toddlers if there isn’t one, and nicer bed if needed. By the time I get around to everyone in round three their lives are likely going to be so different I’m going to do more to the homes and give each of them aspiration rewards. Big changes will happen over time and in stages, sort of like in real life.

I’m not really surprised by this. My game seems to cycle through the same sims breaking up and getting back together rather than dating different sims entirely. Now the question is, are these two back together for good or will they break up again?

So, Billy was still on his way home and Marsha ran off to a party at the Marks household. AND OTIS WAS THE ONLY ONE HOME WITH FORREST!! I really really hope this isn’t a sign my game is getting borked!  Thakfully, Billy was home within minutes.

Meanwhile at the party...Marsha and Dmitry are both decked out in the new formal wear I picked for the upcoming wedding...facepalm. I sure hope you don’t drip any Goopy Carbonara on your WEDDING GOWN Marsha!

tate would definitely pick something horror-centric, like the blair witch project, pet sematary, night of the living dead, or the exorcist.

as the movie progresses, he’d be pretty quiet, watching you more than the screen.

won’t forget to drop morbid little comments that makes him sound like a complete sociopath.

the second you show the slightest sign of fear, tate is on full alert. it’s like a switch flips. he might still tease you a little, like “don’t tell me you’re scared of that,”

if you flinch or jump, it’s his cue to wrap you up in his arms, assuring you the scary stuff isn’t real. in some kind of fucked-up way, it’s almost like he enjoys seeing you vulnerable, but only bc he wants to protect you from the scary stuff.

⟢ 𝐊𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐄𝐑.

kit would definitely lean toward the hopeful, heartwarming side of things. think shawshank redemption or green book that’s got that feel-good vibe, something that makes you believe in the good of people. he’d also want to watch something uplifting, like the pursuit of happiness or forrest gump—movies where the character fights through adversity and comes out on top.

you’d have a big bowl of popcorn to go with the movie. and a few blankets.

he would be super involved. probably a little emotional, especially with movies that tug at his heartstrings. “this part always gets me,” he’d admit, wiping his eyes discreetly if he got too caught up in the feels.

post-movie, he’d want to discuss the themes and characters. “you see how they never gave up hope? that’s the kind of message we all need.”

frat!kyle’s movie taste would likely be a mix of blockbuster sci-fi and superhero films. he likes action, adventure, the sort of movies you can quote with your friends or wear merch to.

i think he’d like franchises like star wars, indiana jones, jurassic park, the avengers, men in black etc.

he’d make it cozy with lots of blankets and snacks. the whole vibe would be super comfy. kyle would be super focused the movie, glancing over at you every now and then to make sure you’re having a good time as well.

when something cute or magical happens in the film, you’d hear his soft “aww” or “look at that,” because he gets genuinely excited.

⟢ 𝐉𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇.

james wouldn’t actively seek out movies, sneering about how they lack the depth and refinement of true art forms like poetry or opera.

he’d explicitly detest hollywood, finding it gaudy and tasteless, particularly because of his ex-wife elizabeth’s infatuation with rudolph valentino.

however, if you wanted to watch something, he’d grudgingly agree, more for your sake than his own. his curiosity would be piqued by gory horror films—saw, hostel, or the texas chainsaw massacre.

as the movie progressed and the gore got more creative, his interest would visibly pique. he’d lean forward, eyes narrowing, as if studying the screen like a scholar. might even occasionally pause the movie to dissect a particularly inventive murder, speculating about the tools used or admiring the “execution” (pun intended)

the intricate methods of destruction would catch his interest. he’d remark about the “artistry” of a scene involving a particularly gruesome demise and might even murmur under his breath about how the filmmakers had some semblance of vision after all.

“ah, see how the arterial spray creates that beautiful arc on the wall?” or “the creativity in dismemberment is… admirable,”

he’d almost certainly take mental notes, planning to incorporate some of these techniques into his own macabre masterpieces.

⟢ cult leader .ᐟ 𝐊𝐀𝐈 𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍.

kai would pick something like the social network, the matrix, fight club, or american psycho. we’re talking straight-up incel film bro material.

kai wouldn’t just watch the movie—he’d analyse the hell out of it. he’s the guy who makes watching movies an intellectual exercise but secretly just wants you to agree with him.

would definitely test you during the film, asking, “do you get it?” or “what would you do in this situation?”

the matrix? he’s mansplaining about the red pill and how people are blind sheep in the “system.” the social network? he’s cackling when eduardo gets screwed over by zuckerberg, saying, “he deserved it for being soft.” american psycho? he’d call it a critique of society.

he’d be so obnoxious during fight club, quoting lines like, “the things you own, own you,” and trying to explain to you how it applies to your life.

he’d fw tyler durden HEAVY. unironically.

⟢ 𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐒.

the three-time tony award winner would gravitate toward films that scream high art—think something like the seventh seal by ingmar bergman or 8½ by fellini—stuff that almost feel like a performance or a commentary on cinema itself.

old-school classics, like citizen kane or the godfather—the ones that’ve stood the test of time. they’ve got that “cinematic art” thing that makes him feel like he’s part of some exclusive club.

if it’s a more recent flick, though, it’s gotta have substance. i think he’d enjoy black swan because it’s dark, intense, and shows true artistic struggle.

he’d admire the actors, the cinematography, whatever gives off that “artsy” vibe. if it’s too mainstream or shallow, though, forget about it. he’s not wasting his time on that.

even during the movie, he’d find ways to bring up the “black pill”. “this is why creative people—real artists—need something more than just hard work. black pill, that’s the real key to unlocking that next level of creativity.”

⟢ 𝐋𝐔𝐊𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐑.

luke would still call citizen kane his favourite movie, but not in a pretentious film snob way—he’s genuinely proud of himself for loving a “classic.” he’d talk about how his grandpa introduced it to him as a kid, and how it gave him the revelation that movies could be more than just entertainment.

his other favourite is the boondock saints, which he doesn’t try to justify with highbrow reasoning.

during movie nights, luke would occasionally point out a few obscure behind-the-scenes facts only because he couldn’t help himself, but otherwise let you watch in peace.

would 100% use the “resting his arm and casually drapes around your shoulder” tactic.

Seeing all the discourse surrounding the X-Men these days - from the Krakoa era "mutants always lose" narratives and the abandoning of Xavier's dream to the discussion surrounding X-Men '97 and whether Magneto was right, I think one thing's become abundantly clear that greatly affects how the mutant metaphor is seen out-of-universe these days.

That being the extreme lack of human allies in X-Men media. Back in Claremont's era, there were non-mutant supporting characters in spades who were allies to the X-Men and the mutant cause.

Stevie Hunter, Amanda Sefton, Candy Southern, Tom Corsi and Sharon Friedlander, Moira MacTaggert, Lee Forrester, Cameron Hodge and Madelyne Pryor pre-heel turns, the Power Pack, Peter Corbeau, Carol Danvers and Michael Rossi, Alistair Stuart, etc.

Now, though? In the Krakoa era there's... Kyle Jinadu whenever writers want to use him as an accessory to Northstar. And '97 has nobody - no significant humans who are fully devoted to the mutant cause. Val Cooper and President Kelly come close, but are too absorbed in their own agendas to really count.

I think that alone accounts for a lot of the "Magneto was right" takes you see online - when the only humans depicted in X-Men media are those persecuting mutants, the assumption is that all humans persecute mutants.

Old concepts for a Stick of Truth AU.

For the longest time I couldn't tell what faction Timmy belonged to because he has his fast travel set up in both bases/will assist you no matter what side you're on. Canonically hes with the elves but in this AU hes a half elf, half human hybrid living in the forrest under Kyle's rule, secretly double dealing between both kingdoms. Instead of a carriage horse he has Gobbles, who is a gryphon but with a turkey head. Just like in the show he was about to be put down until Timmy intervened, Kyle paid for him and Timmy kind of owes him for that. His fast travel business functions similarly to handicar and is his way of paying off his debt. How does he get away with driving for both kingdoms? He pulls his hat over his ears and people mistake him for a human. Hes got a double life.

Jimmy originally had a bigger role but it didn't really fit his character. He was going to usurp the king but I just can't see him having that kind of ambition, he's loyal to Kyle. He finds out Timmy's secret but the two begrudgingly form a truce, because the bard is a hypocrite and hangs out with humans. (Craig's gang.) Neither of them can snitch or their job is on the line, that's the main gist of things.

Johnny definitely cries watching commercials. Like those ASPCA-type commercials or the like super sappy, happy, sweet ones (that definitely don't make me cry or anything) he's bawling like a baby. Disney movies as well. Any movie with some sappy ending he's crying.

I think Simon cries at happy endings. Super horrible things happened and then they get to live happily ever after, gets him. I think bittersweet endings get him too (Return of the King every time 😭). Definitely tries to pretend he's not crying but they all know.

Kyle I think would get teary-eyed over food. Make something from his childhood and he'd tear up. I also think Dinsey movies would get him too, but more of a sniffle than full-blown crying. There might be certain movies though that could get him going.

I think John is the same where it's very specific things that get him going. (I've never seen Mean Machine so I'll take your word for it) again no one is going to say anything, though, because they'll be forced to do extra pushups or extra laps during their next training if they say anything lol.

I'm alright. Still super stressed out and not really sleeping well which is cool. Love that for me. Hope you're doing well (a day late).

This type of message wasn't unfamiliar to you. In fact, it made you happy, knowing you would be meeting your beloved man in your favorite place. The dryness of the message didn't make you any less excited. You knew how busy he was, being a part of a very important task force, yet he never neglected you. He always spared time for his little darling and checked on you when he was away.

The "old bricks" wasn't, as the name might suggest, some old cranky wall located in the desert. It was a magnificent park rarely visited by people nowadays, as the youth preferred bars and discos. It was the ideal meeting place for you and your beloved—a safe, calm, and beautiful place. Originally named Forrest Green (you two shared countless laughs about the dull name), Gaz preferred referring to it as Old Bricks for security reasons and because of that time when an elderly person sitting on a brick made a comment about you two. Gaz cussed him, saying, "zip it, old brick." The awkward silence was enough for the man to walk away, while you two burst into laughter and had a five-minute moment of knee-slapping.

It was pretty cold outside, and the October weather was one of the many reasons why you loved coming to this park. Walking through the alleys, feeling the small rocks under your boots while the soft wind cut through your hair and face. The shy sun, almost setting, reflected its warm light, promising a comeback once the rainy season was over. Despite being a grown-up, you were still a child at heart, finding satisfaction in stepping on the dried orange leaves as you headed to your favorite spot close to the lake, further into the park.

From a distance, you noticed a tall figure. He turned as you got closer to him, and Gaz smiled. He was wearing civilian clothes and held a bouquet of flowers in his arms. He wrapped an arm around your waist, grinning as he lovingly kissed your forehead.

"I'm glad you came, love. I missed you a lot," his voice carried sincerity, making you smile and coo at his blushing face. He handed you the bouquet of white tulips, freshly cut and neatly collected. The delicate plants were hypnotizing, almost pure and untouchable. Gaz cleared his throat, smiling as he rubbed the back of his head.

"I might be a soldier, but I know how beautiful these are and their meaning. Seeing them reminded me of you—how delicate you are. You remind me of humanity and kindness, dear. If anything, this would be the millionth way to tell you how much I love you."

His words made you tear up, holding the bouquet to your chest, as if promising to protect it just like he protects you every day.

"You're perfect, darling. You make me feel at home. Words can't even describe how glad I am to have met you."

His eyes flickered, a soft blush creeping onto his cheeks as he hugged you tightly. Gaz ran his hand through your hair, taking in the familiar fragrance you both chose together. He had a mini bottle of your perfume, keeping it in his gear to smell when he missed you, as if the sweet sugary scent made him feel at home, where he belonged—by your side.

You sat on the bench, holding hands. The wind blew, making you shiver slightly. Your thin jacket wasn't enough to keep you warm. Gaz wrapped his arms around you, his warm flesh providing some comfort.

You nuzzled closer to him, taking pleasure in watching two swans swim in the lake. The magnificent creatures moved swiftly through the water.

Perhaps, in some other world, in another parallel, you and Gaz were those two swans, journeying to every corner of the world in search of where you belonged. But in the end, you knew, without a doubt, that you belonged together. It didn't matter how heated your arguments got; you always came back to each other, falling into each other's arms and whispering apologies mixed with sweet affection.

Later that night, you lay back on the bed with your beloved, sipping the tea he had made earlier. Sinking in the warm sheets and the dim light of the room, Gaz sighed.

"Do you think they ever get sick of each other?" Gaz whispered, referring to the swan couple.

"Well, they might. I'm not sure. Will you ever get sick of me?" you asked playfully.

His head snapped up at your question, as if offended. He held your chin, looking straight into your eyes as he promised, kissing you softly.

"Never."
